Prom Heels

Saturday, April 9, 2011

Hey it's Vian :). I just want to firstly thank everybody who made our first giveaway successful and to all of our new followers. We weren't expecting so many people to participate in our little blog. So thanks again.

So yesterday I went on a trip to the mall and managed to snag myself a pair of heels for my upcoming prom. They're from Sterling and cost $60 rounding up to $67 with tax. The brand is Vianni so it really does match up with my name pretty well which is a little awkward.

Giveaway: $20 store credit to SunshineJewls

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Oh my! The Wallflower Style's first ever giveaway! //happy dance// Here today is Lindsay! She is a talented Canadian (represent!) artist who has created some pretty amazing jewellery that any girl would love to wear. Her Etsy shop is SunshineJewls and her regular online shop with the same name Sunshine Jewls are filled with elegant pieces that reminds you of a white sanded beach and the bright clear blue ocean. Enjoy the quick interview and scroll down for our giveaway!

Please tell us a little about yourself, Lindsay.

Hi! I'm Lindsay, I live and breathe the beautiful west coast with my two amazing little boys, my high-school-sweetheart-turned-husband and precious chocolate lab Bella :) When I'm not busy designing or creating, I'm usually chasing my kids, cooking, playing sports, reading, cooking or shopping!

What first got you started into crafting?

I have always been into crafts since the day I discovered my local "Michaels" store. Sketching and acrylic painting were my favorite. When I was 12, one of my friends gave me a vial of beads and taught me how to make a necklace, and my passion blossomed from there! I started selling at a local gift shop, and since have grown to sell my pieces in several shops on Vancouver Island, as well as online in my etsy shop!

Do you get any artist blocks? If so, how do you get out of them?

I play! I used to spend hours twiddling my thumbs staring at beads, twisting wire, trying to come up with something (especially during the hectic Christmas rush), but I have learned that there are times I need to put everything down, go play outside, walk on the beach, go for a hike, soak in my surroundings! When I am enjoying myself that is when I get the most inspired to be creative and design the best work.

What is your favourite piece that you have created?

I have two! My hand wrapped anchor necklaces are one of my favorites (as no two are ever the same). We spend a lot of time at the docks and on the water on my husband's boat and the anchor necklaces feel extra special to me. My other favorite is my bird's nest necklaces. Again, each one is slightly unique but as my husband is away several months of the year for work, and I'm home with my two boys, the bird's nest reminds me of the close bond the three of us share in our tightly woven nest :)

How would you describe your crafts in a sentence?

Modern, simple, everyday, nature-inspired designs.

Etsy Product Review: Japanese Donation Earrings by KanzashiR

Saturday, April 2, 2011

This is my first product review ever! I have been reviewing novels on my other blog, Stop, Drop, and Read!, for the past three years and still am (it focuses on teen novels and Japanese translated graphic novels). I wanted to take a stab at product reviews because hey, I like to give my opinion on things and help spread the word for shops that I like.

As you may have seen on the blog, I have been listing different Etsy sellers who are donating part or all of their sale proceeds to help Japan. I decided to buy from Etsy for the first time these gorgeous donation earrings from the seller, KanazashiR, who usually sells lovely Japanese hair sticks:

Picture from the shop

The price was $13US, with a $2 shipping fee regardless of country. She donated $11.53US to the American Red Cross after she had subtracted the shipping fees, Etsy fees, and Paypal fees. She sent me the receipt right after!

When I first opened the package, I noticed that she wrapped it in an origami piece of paper where she has written her note to me. I found this very unique. When in turn came to the earrings, I was slightly disappointed that they are much smaller than pictured. Nonetheless, they are still very pretty.

Excuse my bad skin!

During the time when I tested the earrings out, I noticed how it immediately jazzed up the plain outfit I currently wore. I think these earrings are so lovely and they can be worn casually or formally.

I think these are totally worth buying because not only it is going towards a good cause, but it is something you cannot help but love!

I think I will be wearing these often!
